Privacy and trust
SDI Studio is built so that your students' information never reaches us. This page explains exactly how that works, what we do hold, and the few places where something you type does come to us.
Where student information goes
SDI Studio runs on your computer. When you ask it to draft a goal, the text you typed goes directly from your machine to the AI model provider, Anthropic, and the draft comes back to you. It does not pass through a Bright Foundry server, and we keep no copy of it.
Anthropic does process that text in order to write the draft. That is true of every tool that uses an AI model. We would rather tell you where it goes than claim it goes nowhere. How Anthropic handles it is set by its terms for business use, which our privacy policy links to.
What Bright Foundry does hold
We keep what we need to run your account and your licence, and nothing about your students.
- Your account: your name and email, your password in scrambled (hashed) form, when you signed up and last signed in, and the network address you signed up from, which we use only to spot abuse.
- Your licence: its terms and status, an identifier for the copy of SDI Studio installed on your computer, and, on a free account, how many of your free goals you have used. To count them, the app sends a random identifier for each goal. That identifier contains nothing about the goal or the student.
- Things you choose to send us: questions you ask in the app's help chat, and feedback or problem reports you submit.
- The early-access list: the first name, email, state and role you give us, and your answers to the two optional questions about your computer.
- District enquiries: the name, work email, district or ESC, role and message you send us from the districts page.
Both website forms also record which page they were sent from, when, and a scrambled code made from your network address, so no one sender can flood them. A new code is made each day, so codes from different days can't be matched to each other, and each code is kept with its form. What you enter is stored in our database, which Supabase hosts for us. We use the early-access list only to tell you when SDI Studio is ready for you and to decide which states and computers to support next, and district enquiries only to reply to you. Nothing is emailed to you automatically when you send either form.
We do not hold student names, present levels, goals or drafts.
The places where what you type does reach us
Two features send text to Bright Foundry on purpose, because their job is to reach us:
- The help chat inside the app is answered by our support assistant, so your questions come to us.
- Feedback and problem reports come to us so we can fix things.
Please don't include student information in either one. Describe the problem in general terms instead, for example "a goal for a 4th grader working on reading fluency" rather than a student's name or details.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your information for advertising.
- We don't show ads, in the app or on this website.
- This website uses no cookies. Our page-visit counts (Cloudflare Web Analytics) store nothing on your device and aren't used to identify you.
For school and district IT teams
We are preparing an information sheet that answers what IT teams usually ask before approving new software: what SDI Studio installs, which addresses it connects to, and how it protects the information it handles. It will be linked here.
The full details are in our privacy policy and terms of service.
